La Nouvelle-Orléans n'est pas totalement reconstruite après l'affreuse Katrina mais petit à petit avec beaucoup de solidarité et des petits projets comme le Concours Global Green ou ici Make it Right, la communauté se reconstruit. Comme je l'ai déjà dit plus bas dans les commentaires, l'intérêt ici est au-delà de la jolie frimousse de Brad Pitt. Elle vient plutôt de son implication monétaire, architecturale et humanitaire. Et pour la petit jogany, ce n'est qu'un autre prétexte pour parler de son sujet préféré, l'Architecture.
Ce genre de sujet touchant à l'Activisme et l'engagement social, n'ayant pas cours à l'École d'Architecture (sachant que je suis né 80 ans après le Bauhaus et que mon intellect a accepté le fait que le Pritzker ne passera pas dans le coin), je profite de ce petit espace pour aborder les thèmes qui m'inspirent le plus. Déjà que ce blog ne parle pratiquement pas de ma vie, rendons-le utile.
En Décembre 2006, Brad Pitt a réuni un groupe d'experts à La Nouvelle-Orléans pour réflechir sur la reconstruction Post-Katrina. Il sera question de développer des projets de logements sociaux de construction durable et écologique à grande échelle. Après avoir longuement consulté les concernés et plus spécifiquement ceux qui avaient tout perdu durant le cataclysme, Pitt s'est rendu compte de l'opportunité pour élaborer des logements efficaces en terme energétiques, sanitaires et écologiques.
Même dans les pays développés (du genre Canada?), de telles initiatives demeurent assez rares car ils vont à contre-courant des préjugés qu'inculque l'industrie de la construction traditionnelle. Avec un investissement de départ nettement plus considérable, les usagers ne sont pas tentés par les promesses (quasi-garanties) que peut offrir une architecture écologique (économie d'énergie, durabilité des matériaux, qualité de vie, confort…). Je vous invite d'ailleurs si vous vous promenez du côté du CCA d'aller à l'exposition "1973 Désolé, plus d'Essence" qui fais une rétrospective de la très courte mais néanmoins très intéressante période avant-gardiste post-Crise Pétrolière en matière d'architecture verte, solaire…bref durable.
Après avoir analysé les différents aspects auxquels est confronté un projet de reconstruction, notamment en termes socio-économiques, le groupe a décidé d'élargir le champ d'action afin de toucher le maximum d'habitants et de leur faire profiter des innovations en terme d'Habitat social et écologique. Il s'agit donc d'un des plus grands projets que la ville va connaître dans les mois à venir car 150 habitations sont déjà planifiées. Évidemment les experts ont misé sur un système constructif abordable et facile à distribuer industriellement.
Imaginez ce que ce concentré d'innovations pourrait faire au Pérou, Asie du Sud-Est et maintenant au Bengladesh? Avec des réalités socio-démographiques encore plus critiques et leurs difficultés économiques, ces pays n'auraient pu avoir accès à ces solutions dans leur programme (inexistant) d'habitats. Je vous rappelle que les séismes ne tuent pas directement, ce sont plutôt les constructions fragiles et dangereuses qui causent la plupart des décès. Quand on pense aux conditions de vie de près de 60% de la population Tananarivienne, on ne peut qu'espérer que les futurs maires aient ce type de conscience. Mais je sais pour l'instant le souci étant dans la coloration des couches superficielles, je leur conseillerai tout au moins le VERT…
Il est vrai que du côté du ppc on ne peut parler des goûts et des couleursm malgré le rose le projet MIR cache des noms de renoms tels que Shigeru Ban, MVRDV, Morphosis, Graft…

When you spend 7 years only worrying about your Ego (and the best ways to not melt in tears during horrible crits), you feel much better when you now put your mouth where the action is.
In December 2006, Brad Pitt convened a group of experts in New Orleans to brainstorm about building green affordable housing on a large scale to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Having spent time with community leaders and displaced residents determined to return home, Pitt realized that an opportunity existed to build houses that were not only stronger and healthier, but that had less impact on the environment.
Even in the world's richest country (not Canada), initiatives of this kind remain rare exceptions. Many still think eco-friendly building cost more than traditional ones (when you don't care about environmental impacts, it is normal to only consider the expensive aspects). It reminds me of the "1973,Sorry,Out of Gas" exposition I attended in November : when many many many many many architectural alternatives were developed during Oil crisis and were very quickly trashed shortly after.
After discussing the hurdles associated with rebuilding in a devastated area, the group determined that a large-scale redevelopment project focused on green affordable housing and incorporating innovative design was indeed possible. The group settled on the goal of constructing 150 homes (one of the larger rebuilding projects in the city), with an emphasis on developing an affordable system that could be replicated.
Think about the work to do in Peru, South east Asia , in Bengladesh. Laboratories of this scale are the best way to find the most efficient designs to solve Habitat problems all over the world. At this point may I remind you that earthquakes don't kill but unsafe constructions do? When you see the living conditions of half of Tananarive's population, you just wish for more investments of this kind. How again did they justify the (improved) avenue de l'indépendance? Oh yes,….tropicalizing the urban landscape IS really the best way to make a town look greener. It's so sad the candidates for Tana's Mayoralty will have to wear gas mask when/if they rechek their very light chapter on social habitat (if there is one).
Why the pink? with names like MVRDV, Shigeru Ban, Morphosis, Graft on this project, such foolish questions can't be asked….
